Registered Agent Services at Lux Notary Co

Your Legal Mail, Our Professional Care!

Virginia businesses such as LLCs and corporations are generally required to maintain a Registered Agent and registered office within the Commonwealth.

A Registered Agent serves as the official point of contact for receiving service of process, certain legal notices, and other official documents on behalf of a business.

At Lux Notary Co, we make Registered Agent service simple, professional, affordable, and convenient.

Protect your privacy. Protect your professionalism. Keep business matters at your business address — not your front door.

What Is a Virginia Registered Agent?

A Registered Agent is an individual or qualified business entity designated to receive certain legal documents and official notices on behalf of a business.

Virginia LLCs, corporations, and certain other registered business entities are generally required to continuously maintain a Registered Agent and registered office in Virginia.

The specific legal requirements vary depending on the type of business entity.

Virginia Registered Agent Requirements

For Virginia LLCs, Registered Agent requirements are set forth in Virginia Code § 13.1-1015.

Virginia law provides that a Registered Agent’s duty is to forward to the business any process, notice, or demand served on the Registered Agent.

A Registered Agent helps ensure your business has a reliable Virginia location where official notices and legal documents can be received and promptly forwarded to you.

Who Can Serve as a Registered Agent?

Virginia law permits certain individuals and qualified business entities to serve as Registered Agents.

Individual Registered Agents

Depending on the entity type, an individual Registered Agent generally must be a Virginia resident who meets the qualifications established by Virginia law, such as a member, manager, officer, director, other qualifying representative of the business, or a member of the Virginia State Bar.

Business Entity Registered Agents

Certain domestic or foreign business entities authorized to conduct business in Virginia may also qualify to serve as Registered Agents when the statutory requirements are met.

Why Use a Professional Registered Agent?

One of the biggest benefits of using a professional Registered Agent is privacy.

If you use your home address as your registered office, legal documents may be delivered directly to your residence. That can mean a process server showing up at your door in front of family members, visitors, or neighbors.

With Lux Notary Co serving as your Registered Agent, qualifying legal and official documents can be delivered to our professional business location instead of your home.

Using a professional Registered Agent can help:

  • Keep certain legal documents from being served at your home

  • Avoid unexpected visits from process servers at your residence

  • Reduce the chance of neighbors, family members, customers, or employees witnessing service of legal documents

  • Provide a professional location for official notices

  • Help maintain separation between your personal residence and your business affairs

  • Ensure important documents are received and forwarded promptly

  • Help your business maintain a valid Registered Agent and registered office in Virginia

  • Provide an added layer of privacy for business owners who do not want to use their home as their registered office address

What Types of Documents Can a Registered Agent Receive?

A Registered Agent may receive certain legal and official documents on behalf of a business, including:

  • Service of Process — lawsuits, summonses, complaints, subpoenas, and other court-related documents

  • Legal Notices — formal notices, demands, or other legal correspondence directed to the business

  • State Corporation Commission Notices — official correspondence related to your Virginia business entity

  • Government Correspondence — certain notices from state agencies or other government offices

  • Tax Notices — certain official tax-related notices or correspondence

  • Compliance Notices — documents relating to business compliance requirements

  • Administrative or Regulatory Notices — official communications from government or regulatory agencies

  • Other Official Documents delivered to the business through its Registered Agent

Requirements of a Virginia Registered Agent

A Virginia Registered Agent generally must:

  1. Maintain a qualifying registered office in Virginia

  2. Maintain a physical street address rather than a P.O. Box for the registered office

  3. Be available at the registered office during normal business hours to receive service of process and official notices

  4. Promptly forward documents received in the capacity of Registered Agent to the business
